Christine Schrock
Biography
Born on Dezember 1, 1955, I grew up with my little sister Gaby and my parents in Straubing. I attended public elementary school and successfully finished Ludwig's Grammar School, language branch, in 1976. That autumn I began to study Anglistics and German at the University of Regensburg.
My parents had been working all the years and besides, they had taken an active role in the trade union work since their youth. My granny had to flee from Silesia - it's mostly her example that made me find out how important and enriching (in experience) social and political commitment can be.
From indignation about the conservative vote of no confidence against Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt I joined the Social Democratic Party in 1983. Within a couple of years I extended my commitment to the social area, in particular to the Children's Association and to gender equality work. After several years as an administration secretary at the trade union ver.di (formerly known as ÖTV), I now work as the head of office of the SPD in Lower Bavaria.
In April 1977 I was married to Rudolf (Rudi) Schrock; meanwhile we have two grown-up sons, Tim and Tom. We are a very politically interested family. Therefore I attached great importance in the education of my sons - to the fact that they become critical and engaged young people who can play an active role in society and its issues.
I prefer to spend the little remaining spare time I have with my family, by reading from novels, creative employ, theatre attendance or journeys to other countries.
